Overview

Finance is everywhere in our society. It inhabits every space of your life, starting with the everyday cash withdrawal and credit card payments all the way to health insurance, housing loans and savings and investing for your retirement. Evidently, both starting a company and buying/selling it requires a financial transaction. On the macro-level, financial issues such as the Euro crisis, inflation and central bank policy actions are often key drivers for the global economy. So, in this course, students will learn what is Finance, who are the key players, and what roles they play.

Learning highlights

  • Students will acquire a basic understanding of financial theory and knowledge of financial institutions and financial instruments.
  • They will also learn what it means to start a company, evaluate and buy/sell companies, and what bankruptcy means for a company.
  • The course emphasizes cultivating financial instincts as well as having a solid theoretical backbone.
