A defining moment for Thai AI education
On 24 May 2025, the national team selection round for Thailand's AI Olympiad took place at Chulalongkorn University. Eight of the country's most talented young mathematicians and programmers competed for a coveted spot on the national roster. When the results were announced, three of those eight finalists — all trained by Harbour.Space @ UTCC — had secured their place on the team that will travel to Kazakhstan this August to compete at the APOAI and IOAI world finals.
It is a result that speaks for itself, but behind it lies something more important: a sustained commitment to nurturing exceptional young minds in a field that is shaping the future.
The journey to selection
Competing at the national level in AI requires far more than raw talent. It demands rigorous training, exposure to research-grade problems, and mentorship from coaches who understand both the academic and competitive dimensions of the discipline. That is precisely what the Harbour.Space @ UTCC team has built in Thailand.
Through the Leagues of Code programme and the broader Harbour.Space Thailand community, our trainers have worked alongside students for years, developing their skills in machine learning, data science, and algorithmic problem-solving. The selection round at Chulalongkorn University was the culmination of that journey — and the three students who made the national team are a testament to the quality of that preparation.
“Three of the eight national finalists were trained by our team. This is a reflection of years of dedication from our trainers and the young people they have guided.”
Competing on the world stage
This August, the three students will represent Thailand at two of the most prestigious AI competitions for young people: the Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (APOAI) and the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), both held in Kazakhstan.
These are not ordinary contests. The IOAI in particular brings together the brightest secondary school students from across the globe to tackle challenges at the frontier of applied AI. Earning a place on the Thai national team to compete at this level is an achievement that will define their academic and professional paths for years to come.
What comes next
Perhaps the most meaningful detail of this story is what happens after the competitions. All three students have already chosen Harbour.Space @ UTCC as their next step — they will join the university community as undergraduates, continuing the journey they began as high schoolers in our training programmes.
This is what Harbour.Space is built for: not just preparing students to win competitions, but to grow into the innovators and researchers who will define the next generation of technology. We are immensely proud of everyone in the Leagues of Code and Harbour.Space Thailand team who made this result possible, and we look forward to welcoming these three exceptional young people to our campus.
The journey continues.
