In this course students will learn the whole stop motion process from start to finish. We focus on both the creative aspect of stop motion as well as the technical side. Students will learn how to come up with ideas and how to execute said ideas and bring them to life. We’ll learn more technical lessons about animation principles and laws of light, students will get to explore different mediums of stop motion like claymation, pixilation, light animation and found objects.

Lecture: How to come up with ideas? Exercise 1: limitation. How Stop motion studio App works? Animation 1: Explore the app, animate anything!
Animation 2: Animate one idea from the brainstorm session.
Lecture: History of stop motion animation and its different mediums. Exercise 2: Find your intersections, choose an object, and think of ideas.
Animation 3: Animate your idea with your object or material.
Week review: Present your 3 animations.
Lecture: Principles of Animation. Animation 4: Coin ease in/ease out. Coin as another object/animal.
Animation 5: Explore more principles Claymation animation following 2-3 animation principles.
Lecture: Laws of Light. Animation 6: Animate with Light.
Animation 7: Group animation Pixilation!
Week review: Present your 3 animations.
Lecture: Stop motion Animation Pipeline. Storyboard, animatic and Block animation. Exercise 3: Brainstorm session.

Week review: Present your 3 animations.
Lectures on the basics twice a week followed by an animation exercise.
Learning by practice; students will produce a total of 9 stop motion animations in different mediums.
Presentations on the final day of the week; students present their class animations and learn how to document their processes to build a portfolio.
Final project.
dina A. Amin is a stop motion artist and a maker from Cairo, Egypt. She completed her B.A. (Hons) in Industrial Design in Malaysia. Although trained as a Product Designer, dina loves to explore the intersections between various disciplines.
In 2016, dina started a side project called ‘Tinker Friday’ on Instagram, where she combined her passion for product design and stop motion with her views on consumerism. In this stop motion series, dina shows people what’s inside the countless things they throw away, in unusual ways. dina continues to tinker, making new items out of old ones, constantly telling stories and showing people things in a completely different way.

Yes. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate signed by the director of the program your course belonged to.
Do I need a visa?
