Overview

Motion design is a discipline that takes graphic design principles and applies them to video production through the use of animation and visual effects. From the analogue experimental films of the 1920s to the digital interfaces we interact with today, the development of motion design has always been closely tied to development in technology. It is an exciting field that combines animation and graphic design principles with new cutting-edge technologies.

Prerequisites

Have After Effects Installed and make sure your computers have enough free space as well.

Basic understanding of Photoshop, Illustrator or similar programs like Figma or Sketch.

Animations take time to create, so time management outside of class will be important.

Methodology

3 weekly projects. (concept, storyboard, design, animation, and presentation)

Hands-on demos and exercises

Small group and whole class project critiques

Lectures covering topics and motion history relating to the week’s project

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
30% - Project 1
30% - Project 2
30% - Project 3
10% - Participation

Over the years, Po has solved problems through design and motion with clients such as Google, Meister, Duolingo, Squarespace, Airbnb, Buck, and others.
