Overview

‘There are many things humans can design. But the greatest form of design is to become the designer of your own life.’

In this course we will look into life. The course is in essence about basic life navigation skills. We will learn and reflect about our life and identity. In this module we will deal with the ‘elephant in the room’ – ourselves (our fears, doubts, emotions etc.) and whatever might help us to navigate more balanced, more forceful and more satisfied through life. We will study different philosophies, concepts and their relevance for our life. We will dive deeper into ancient philosophies (Vedanta, Stoicism, Shaolin etc.) and apply them to our life today. We will learn about emotional intelligence, our emotional triggers, will look into our fears and will study what neuroscience tells us about life. We will learn about the four dimensions of our life: body, mind, spirit and energy. At the same time we will be adding concrete and practical reflections and exercises from day 1 to start living more mindfully and wholly.

Learning highlights

  • The goal is to provide a platform for the questions you have always wondered about and never could ask. We want to introduce simple skill sets and reflections for your further life. In this module you are invited to look into the dimensions of human life. At the end of your journey you will have the chance to present how you ‘design’ your life - what principles guide you. This module is just the beginning of your ‘rendezvous with life’. It should never end. We will be forming power circles consisting of around 6 students each circle. This group will serve as your ‘buddy group’ throughout the module (and hopefully beyond).

Prerequisites

If you have no questions towards life, then this is not for you! This course requires high curiosity, a seeker’s mindset, full commitment, and a desire to learn more about life. I invite you to be open, vulnerable, listen and share! The more you open up the more you will get out. This course is aimed at transforming the experience you will have in your (university) life. Additional class/group work is required and will be distributed. Please bring an A4 booklet (kind of notepad but please binded and not loose papers) with you on the first day. This will be your ‘life cookbook’. Disclaimer: This course has never been taught anywhere. It is specially designed and put together for Harbour Space students.

Methodology

Combination of theoretical input and practical application. We will be having lectures, videos, power circles, self-assessments, individual and group reflections, self-learning & reading. We will continuously do exercises to bring relevance to the provided knowledge and tools and maximise insights and learning

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
25% - classroom participation
25% - immersion into activities
25% - self-assessment
25% - peer input
The following outputs are expected from you: a) life cookbook (a journal where you put down your main learnings and daily reflections); b) an artistic expression of yourself during the course (could be anything: poem, painting, drawing, write-up, music piece etc.); c) final life sharing presentation which is your stage. Gradings: The course is about the value you will get out of this module (hopefully!). The ‘grading’ will be mainly based on your focus and intensity:
