Overview

The first week of this course focuses on idea validation and lean startup experimentation, whereas in the second two weeks of the course, things go one step further and explore many of the techniques, tools and strategies used by entrepreneurs and startups to help drive rapid growth.

Learning highlights

  • The objective of the course is to start pushing you to think both creatively and systematically about the ways in which product-market fit can be validated, leveraged and then optimized.
  • Growth hacking is not some kind of mysterious toolbox and there is no growth hacking rule book. Even if there was, everything changes and most of the content would be out of date by the time the book was published.
  • Growth is a mindset and the best growth hackers are always experimenting to find new strategies to leverage growth in the most surprising ways.

Prerequisites

There are two main prerequisites for this course. A good amount of sleep each night and an open mind. Growth hacking is many things, but it is not something that can be taught. It centers on your imagination, creativity and resourcefulness. What you get out of this course depends entirely on what you are prepared to bring to it

Methodology

This is an experiential course that requires students to work it out for themselves and come prepared to show-and-tell the next day. Although the syllabus will help establish a framework of methodology and tools, it's the case studies, discussions, and group work that will spark the students’ imagination.

Growth hacking is not the real value that comes from students learning to apply their unique creativity to their teams (and other teams) unique set of problems.

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
40% - Attendance & time keeping // Participation & sharing
20% - Imagination & resourcefulness
20% - Daily challenges & logic puzzles
20% - Final presentation & self-grading
At the end of the course, all students will also be expected to vote (anonymously) on the performance of other teams: The most elaborate growth hack. The most imaginative growth hack. The most automated growth hack. The most impactful growth hack. The most helpful team.
