Monday
1

Familiarise

We’ll use this day to understand business models as well as the Business Model Canvas. We’ll discuss ideas and form small working teams around them (if that did not happen already in prior classes)

Tuesday
2

Utilise

On this day, we’ll use the Business Model Canvas to shape our ideas into a possibly viable business model.

Wednesday
3

Diverge

We’ll discover alternative business models, customer segments and value propositions for our ideas. We also learn that good business models are highly focused.

Thursday
4

Converge & refine

Once we’ve got all variations on the table, we need to pick the most plausible business model and identify potential risks for failure by scratching items off the list we find unrealistic.

Friday
5

Reflect

Each team will present the business model they find most viable and motivates what they deem the riskiest parts. Then, the entire class can provide feedback.

Prerequisites

No prior knowledge is required, but it does help if the participants come in with somewhat viable business ideas.

Methodology

The course will consist of a mix of lectures and group work in which the students form teams around business ideas they have.

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
60% - for attending and actively participating in exercises and discussions (-10% for each missed day)
20% - for handing in a clear, brief and articulate business model as well as plausible variations
20% - for the quality of the risk assessment for the failure of the new business idea, including an assessment of the team’s capacity to execute on the new business idea
