Overview
This course takes your MVP from Modern Web Application 1 to a deployed application that real users can reach. The backend remains the focus: running an app in production, integrating external services, building your own API, adding interactivity driven from the backend, and keeping an application maintainable as it grows, including architectural concepts such as microservices and multi-tenancy.
You also move from using AI as a personal assistant to working with coding agents the way professional teams do. You write project instructions and conventions for agents, plan before you let an agent build, use tests and CI as guardrails for what agents produce, and involve agents in pull requests and issue handling.
By the end, your app is live, you have a development workflow that holds up beyond the solo situation, and you can defend the design decisions behind it.
Learning highlights
Backend Web Development
- Running an application in production: hosting, deployment, DNS, configuration, monitoring and backups
- Integrating external services through APIs and SDKs, including payments
- Building your own API for programmatic access
- Backend-driven interactivity with Livewire (HTML over the wire)
- Architectural concepts beyond MVC: microservices and multi-tenancy
Tech Project Management
- Changing and extending an application that runs in production
- Monitoring usage to detect new user needs and weak design points
- Cost estimation for real-life projects
- Git workflows beyond the solo developer: Git Flow vs GitHub Flow, pull requests
AI-Assisted Development
- Project instructions and conventions that guide coding agents (e.g. AGENTS.md)
- Planning and specifying before letting an agent build
- Tests and CI as guardrails for agent output
- Agents in the team flow: issues, pull requests and reviews

Methodology
- Lectures: during the daily lectures, you are introduced to new knowledge and learn new skills.
- Practical examples: the lecturer live-codes a demo application over the span of the course, following the same rhythm you do: each concept is built by hand first, then with AI tools, with a focus on how coding agents are instructed, reviewed and corrected.
- Homework: smaller assignments are given throughout the module (individual and group work). AI tools are always allowed, but you must always be able to explain what you submit.
- Individual project: every student builds their own project. Your Git history and the AI artefacts in your repository (such as agent instructions and plans) document how your app came about.
