Takuji Okubo is the Managing Director and Chief Economist of Japan Macro Advisors. JMA is an independent macro-research house, specializing in the analysis of the Japanese economy and its public policies. The company serves global fortune 500 companies, as well as financial institutions in Japan. Takuji is also the Director of Japan Risk Forum, an association of Chief Risk Officers of Japanese financial institutions. In 2017, he also launched India Macro Advisers, based in Bangalore, providing easily accessible and interactive macroeconomic data on India.
Prior to founding JMA, he was the Chief Economist at Societe Generale, in charge of Japan and South Korea, and senior economist at Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs. Takuji holds B.A in Economics from Tokyo University and while at the university he was a recipient of prestigious Inoue scholarship. He also holds MBA from INSEAD and Msc. In Economics from UPF in Barcelona. He spent 2 years in the Ph.D program in Finance at UPF before returning to the financial industry. Apart from work, he enjoys motor-cycling, scuba-diving, cooking as well as worrying about the future of the Japanese economy.
