Overview

As Artificial Intelligence becomes embedded across modern businesses, marketing effectiveness is shaped less by access to tools and more by the capability to apply AI strategically. The future of marketing will belong to those who can apply AI thoughtfully, creatively, and effectively.

This course introduces students to the applied use of Artificial Intelligence in modern digital marketing. Positioned at the intersection of technology, creativity, and business, it focuses on how accessible and widely available AI tools can enhance marketing strategy, execution, and performance.

Rather than emphasising AI theory or programming, the course prioritises hands-on experimentation, critical thinking, and responsible adoption. Students will explore how AI can support content creation, audience research, advertising, SEO, analytics, and workflow optimisation. By the end of the course, students will have developed an AI-enhanced digital marketing playbook grounded in real-world professional practice.

Learning highlights

  • Understand how AI is reshaping digital marketing practices and business decision-making.
  • Develop applied AI literacy specific to marketing contexts.
  • Learn to collaborate effectively with AI tools rather than rely on automation alone.
  • Apply AI to real-world marketing challenges across channels and formats.
  • Critically assess AI outputs for quality, bias, and strategic alignment.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for this course. Students are expected to have basic digital literacy and a genuine interest in marketing, communication, or digital business. No programming or data science background is required; however, students should be comfortable using popular AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or comparable generative AI platforms.

Methodology

This course follows an applied, project-based learning approach that emphasises experimentation, critical thinking, and real-world relevance. Instruction balances conceptual grounding with immediate practical application, enabling students to test tools, evaluate outcomes, and refine their work through iteration.

Each session combines instructor-led discussion, demonstrations, and case-based examples with hands-on exercises. Students actively use accessible AI tools to complete marketing tasks while developing an understanding of how and why AI systems generate outputs. Emphasis is placed on human judgement, strategic intent, and responsible use, rather than treating AI as a black-box solution.

At the beginning of the course, students select a brand, product, start-up concept, or organisation. Throughout the module, they progressively apply AI tools across research, content creation, campaign planning, optimisation, and strategic analysis. These activities culminate in the development of an AI-enhanced Digital Marketing Playbook, integrating learning across sessions and reflecting professional marketing workflows.

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
50% - Final Project – AI-Enhanced Digital Marketing Playbook
50% - In-Class Applied Assignments and Exercises
