Maths as a Second Language

Anyone who lacks the strong maths foundation for a career in tech, but is eager to learn has a home in our foundational course. Students acquire all the basic tools they need to apply for any top-rate tech university in the world.

If your maths level is not sufficient, you can first join our intensive, one year preparatory Maths as a Second Language (MSL) course before starting the maths intensive degree studies. After successful completion of MSL students are granted an automatic right to enter all maths intensive degrees at Harbour.Space.

The foundational course gives students all the essential mathematical knowledge in programming, geometry, algebra, calculus and algorithms they need to develop their skills in technology.

Applicants who wish to acquire math skills in order to pursue studies in elite technical universities at an undergraduate or graduate levels are invited to apply to MSL.

ALEXANDER OMELCHENKO
Faculty Leader Maths as a Second Language

Alexander Omelchenko is an acclaimed professor, Dr.Sci. in Maths and Mechanics and Head of the Computer Sciences Department as well as Deputy Director of Higher Education Centre for Academic Affairs at St.Petersburg Academic University.

Alexander specialises in mathematics, combinatronics and optimisation. During his extensive academic career, he has written over a hundred scientific publications in the fields of optimisation theory, topology, combinatorics, gas dynamics and applied mathematics. He has won more than fifty research grants and scholarships and has received an award named after Leonhard Euler St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences for a significant contribution to the theory of shockwaves and flow control. At his hometown St.Petersburg Academic University, Alexander launched one of the best Russian computer science university programmes thanks to close collaboration with JetBrains (the leader in integrated development environment for Java, Ruby, Python, PHP, Objective-C, C++ and other programming languages). He has a profound understanding of all relevant programming languages today and celebrates the science and art of excellent teaching, software development, engineering and design. As Harbour.Space Faculty Leader Computer Sciences, Alexander aspires to empower students to tackle the greatest challenges in IT and at the intersection of IT with other disciplines such as biology, physics and mathematics.
